Oh, srry for that, it’s my bad english: Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. The problem is solved with latest Ubuntu installed. I agree with you that it does, indeed, appear to be a driver problem. I ended up going back to XP. Same problem when i turn on my pc, no sound until i click “Scan for hardware changes”.

Monday, May 7, 6: Probably a good chance. I have contacted HP about this, and purportedly, they are aware of the problem and may be releasing a new driver. I would suggest you to place the computer in clean boot state and check.
Toshiba Satellite P100 laptop sound card drivers
I doubt if there are any Windows 7 drivers for it. In reply to lucianodeoliveira’s post on August 1, Same problem when i turn on my pc, no sound until i click “Scan for hardware changes”. I have a Toshiba satellite and had to check the “Disable all enhancements” button before I could get any sound.
I know this is strange but in my opinion there is no other way to solve this problem. No other options show, even though I know the hardware is capeable of 5 channel and varying sample rates and bit depths. There could be a possibility of any third party software conflict as you have to restart the computer in order to hear the sound. I have gone through the upgrade process and the laptop is working fine except for the sound and remote.

Sound was working perfectly until the upgrade. I got this laptop as a gift, don’t know what system was installed before windows 7. There are no options to select any other configuration except ‘stereo’.

Unfortunately I do not know how to restore the original configuration, it is not written anywhere, the system cannot figure it out by itself and the restoration dvd’s that came with the computer allow only for a radical total restoration to the day-of-sale status, which is not acceptable.
